If you haven't been asked yet where you want to go to college or what you want to do with your career, you will soon. We at Hemophilia of North Carolina want to help you find an answer to those questions. That's why we are offering Career, Education, & Opportunities (CEO), a program developed for the teen hemophilia and clotting disorder community by the Indiana Hemophilia & Thrombosis Center working in partnership with Baxter. The program includes a teen track and a separate parent track.
CEO is a full-day, professionally-facilitated program designed to help teens ages 14-18 years develop skills in career planning and financial independence. During the CEO event, teens will focus on 1) goal setting; 2) career planning, and 3) financial understanding. Participants will take a self-assessment test, then apply the results during fun and interactive activities including real-world simulation called "Reality Store®".
The parent track includes 1) a facilitated review of the parents' personality assessment, and 2) tools to assist parents in talking with their child after the event to reinforce concepts learned. This track will run from 10:00am-2:00pm on Saturday and from 9:00am- 11:00am on Sunday morning. Guest speakers will be Jennifer Meldau, MSRN, CPNP – HTC Coordinator at Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders Clinic of Palmetto Health in Richland, SC; and Paulette Bryant, MD, Presbyterian Blume Pediatric Hematology & Oncology Clinic of Charlotte, NC. Topics for discussion will include transitioning and partnering with your clinician.
Hemophilia of North Carolina is offering this program to our teen members free of charge. This includes lodging at the Homewood Suites Hilton (we'll have large suites and draw straws for the beds – the rest of us will be in sleeping bags!), all meals, and entrance to the US National Whitewater Center.
Included: One hotel room per family (can accommodate up to 6 people) on Saturday night. Rooms will be provided on Friday night for those traveling a distance of 200 miles or more from their residence to Charlotte. Meals on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday will be provided for parents and participants. Water park wristbands will be available to all occupants of the hotel rooms. Space is limited; reservation will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. We encourage families and friends to stay together if possible.
To sign up, please complete the registration form (pdf 664kb) and return them to HNC no later than Friday, February 12, 2010.
