Blood Brotherhood
June 5, 2009

Hemophilia of North Carolina is very pleased to formally announce our participation and launch of the Blood Brotherhood program here in NC! Details for the program were shared by HFA Past President and fellow brother, Carl Weixler, at our recent Annual Meeting and led by our pilot site coordinator, Matt Igelman. We are one of seven states in the country who have joined this HFA program as a pilot site.

The Blood Brotherhood Program provides opportunities for men with bleeding disorders to get together both in person and online to discuss their issues with each other and with caring professionals. It's a chance to connect with others who have been where they are – people who can share their experiences, suggest a coping skill, or just crack a joke and enjoy each other's company!

Today, the life expectancy for someone with hemophilia is roughly the same as anyone else. With this come a number of issues that most were not prepared for and the reason to connect with other members of the community and learn from the latest experts in their field.

This program is open to all adult males with a bleeding disorder and it's easy to get started. To begin, download and print the Participation & Confidentiality Agreement (pdf, 56kb) and the Enrollment Form (pdf, 128kb). Complete both of these forms and mail them back to me at the address below. All information is strictly confidential and will not be shared outside of the HNC or HFA management teams. If you are not comfortable disclosing some of this information, just contact me by phone or email to enroll you with minimal information.

In addition to completing these two forms, we ask that you take about 15 minutes to complete this easy pre-participation survey on Survey Monkey. If you prefer to complete the survey in hard copy and mail to HFA rather than complete it online, just let me know and I will send it to you.

We look forward to your enrollment and participating in this great opportunity by helping to share your thoughts on topics that are important to you and suggestions on activities and venues to get together. Become a Blood Brother today!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me by email/phone or Matt Igelman at theocowns@yahoo.com. Additional information about the program is also available on the HFA web site at http://hemophiliafed.org/programs-and-services/blood-brotherhood/.

Thank you.
