HNC Garners NHF Awards and Thank You

NHF Annual Meeting
November 30, 2008

Several members of Hemophilia of North Carolina recently attended the 60th Annual Meeting of the National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF) in the beautiful city of Denver, CO. People took advantage of this opportunity to attend a wide array of educational seminars that included tracks specifically for consumers, social workers, nurses, physicians, physical therapists and chapter staff. Newly appointed NHF CEO, Val Bias, shared his vision for the future of NHF and the bleeding disorders community. The meeting was both encouraging and energizing.

Those of us who attended the awards luncheon were elated to hear Hemophilia of North Carolina announced as the winner of the Award of Distinction in Programs for its web site design and event communications. The announcement of the prestigious award was accompanied by a wonderful trophy and $1000 check to the chapter which was graciously accepted by members of the board of directors in attendance.

In addition to the Award of Distinction, Hemophilia of North Carolina members Charles and Kathy RegisterCharles and Kathy Register were honored with the Chapter Recognition Award of Excellence. Charles and Kathy were founding members of Hemophilia of North Carolina in 1973. Over the past 35 years they have worked tirelessly on behalf of the bleeding disorders community in the state of North Carolina. As many of you may know, Charles is the HNC web master and without his guidance and assistance, our communications would certainly not be award worthy. Kathy, who currently serves at Treasurer on the HNC Board of Directors, has worn many hats in the organization over the years and advocates with passion for all members of the bleeding disorders community. This award is so well deserved and our congratulations go out to them both — thank you!

This is the perfect time of year to give thanks to everyone who has helped Hemophilia of North Carolina further its goal of promoting opportunities for improving the quality of life for persons with hemophilia and all bleeding disorders. Our thanks to all of you who helped volunteer countless hours to plan and host events, contributed monetary donations, sponsored our many educational and fundraising events, advocated for the community and helped to make our first Hemophilia Walk a wonderful success.

We wish everyone a happy holiday season and a heartfelt thank you for all that you do.

We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.
