2009 NHF Walk for Hemophilia
go to Photo Gallery Donations are still coming in and being posted daily for the NC 2009 Hemophilia Walk. Our thanks again to those who supported the event which was an outstanding success for Hemophilia of North Carolina and its members! To date, we have raised $85,984 locally and had well over 600 walkers attend the event. We hosted 36 teams at the walk and had a terrific day! The ten 2009 walks around the country are now completed with the last one being in Central Ohio this past weekend. In total, the walks raised over $828k locally plus the national sponsorships so we are well over 1 million dollars! Between the 10 sites, the groups hosted 6000 walkers and 400 teams - now that's raising awareness! We are looking forward to 2010 and will add 5 more sites around the country for a total of 15 walks. In NC, we hosted 36 teams at the walk and had a terrific day! Pictures of the walk are now available on our website at www.hemophilia-nc.org. If anyone would like copies or has additional photos to post, just let me know. I think the pictures certainly capture the fun and excitement of the event! Although we are still posting donations and sorting through information, we would like to highlight some of the outstanding efforts by individuals and teams this year: Top 5 Fundraising Teams
There were many other teams that raised well over their goals and our thanks for all the very generous donations and support! Largest Walk Team — Our hats off again to Talecris Biotherapeutics for being the largest walk team again with well over 100 walkers! The team also raised nearly $2,000 and was a generous local presenting sponsor with a $10,000 corporate donation. Thanks to Sandy Cartwright, team captain, and Ronnett McCorkell for a terrific job. Hospital Cup Award — The award for the Hospital Cup went to the UNC Tarhealers again this year! Congratulations to team captain Brenda Nielsen and all her very supportive team mates on being the top fundraising hospital team of 2009 - the team raised over $1,300 for the walk and had a great team of walkers at the event! Best Team Tee Shirt — This year's honor went to the Kitty Kat Kathryn team who had a wonderful tee shirt design that really captured the essence of the walk! We are very excited about the responses we've received from participants this year and encouraged by their enthusiasm in making preparations and sharing ideas for the 2010 Hemophilia Walk. We hope you Save the Date - our walk will be on Saturday, October 16th, 2010 and more details will be sent out after the first of the year! Thanks again to all of our sponsors, donors, walkers, volunteers and team captains who did a phenomenal job of making this event a huge success! — Susan Cowell |
