Volunteer Opportunities for 2010

January 6, 2010

As we plan our events for 2010 it is clear that it wil be be a very busy year here in NC.  Last year, we expanded our outreach to many different groups including men (Blood Brotherhood), women, teens, Hispanic community and continued to offer programs to our families and general membership.  This year we have our three large fund-raising events scheduled which include the upcoming Casino Night, the HNC Annual Charity Golf Tournament on April 9th and the 2010 Hemophilia Walk scheduled for October 16th.

Because these events and programs have expanded significantly over the years, we can use your help in the planning so we can assure continued success.  Some opportunities are listed below and we encourage you to get involved and help to make a difference by sharing your time and talent.  We certainly realize that everyone is very busy so if you have limited time or resources to commit we will work with your schedule to fit your needs.

*HNC 6th Annual Charity Golf Tournament

April 9th - The Preserve at Jordan Lake - Chapel Hill

Planning committee members needed to identify participants & sponsors, collect and organize raffle/auction items, work the day of the event for check-in and hole-in-one monitors, promote the event through media and other outreach efforts, gift bag collection and stuffing.

*2010 Hemophilia Walk

October 16th - Lake Crabtree County Park - Morrisville

Planning committee members to work on logistics of event, promote the event, recruitment of team & sponsors, design materials, organize volunteers, kick-off event organizers, communications and much more.  This has become the largest fundraiser for HNC with continued growth over the past two years and an endless opportunity to grow the event and put our own touch on the success here in NC.  Although this date seems far in advance, the planning process is underway and we could use your help in assuring continued success of this event.

*Family Programs for 2010

Various Dates and Regions

We are looking at hosting quarterly meetings in three regions of NC for families to have an opportunity to meet and share thoughts based on the ages of their children.  The groups will be divided into the following ages:  Birth to 4 years old, 5-12 years old and 13-18 years old.  We believe this will give families a chance to meet with others who have children in the same age range and we will develop topics for the meetings that are appropriate for that age group.  The initial regions identified are Charlotte, Winston-Salem/Greensboro and Raleigh-Durham.  We are in need of coordinators from each region for each age group to help plan where the events will take place and assist with identifying the topics.  Tentatively, we are looking at hosting these on a weeknight at venues that are appropriate for the age group.  Options to expand to a weekend event will be considered based on the program.

We also continue to have ongoing programs and would encourage you to contact us to get involved with any of those groups which include women, men, teens, and the Latino community.

As an added incentive to volunteer, HNC has partnered with Disney on the Give A Day, Get a Day program. The effort is to inspire one million people to volunteer a day of service to a participating organization in their communities. So they are celebrating these volunteers' good works by giving each of them a 1-day, 1-theme park ticket to the Disneyland® Resort or Walt Disney World® Resort, free.  Details will be provided by HNC to those who volunteer.

If you are interested in offering your assistance, please contact me by phone or email.

Thank you.
