![]() Virtual Legislative DayAdvocate from the Comfort of Your Home
Advocacy initiatives throughout the day at your leisure (or by appointment with your legislator). Each year, members of the North Carolina bleeding disorders community gather in Raleigh to educate and advocate with lawmakers about important issues in our community. This year, amid COVID-19, we’re following that tradition with our Virtual Legislative Day and instead of going to Raleigh, you will be advocating from the comfort of your home! Throughout the day, advocates will be emailing, tweeting, and teleconferencing with legislators to ask them to protect people with bleeding disorders and other rare conditions through the pandemic and beyond. Hemophilia of North Carolina’s (HNC) top concern is access to medical care – and specifically about Medicaid Expansion. People deserve access to medical care, especially those with expensive conditions that require medication in order to remain healthy. Now more than ever, individuals may find themselves without access to insurance. As an advocacy organization, we want to make sure that nobody falls “between the cracks”, unable to access their lifesaving treatment. Even if this isn’t something you personally worry about, it is a fear for many in the bleeding disorders community and beyond. We ask that you be a voice for them.
Not sure who your legislator is? Here's a quick lookup.
Though we will not be meeting in person with our legislators, HNC will help schedule phone or virtual appointments with your NC legislator or their staff as available. If interested, please indicate this on the registration form so we can contact your legislator’s office. Additionally, we will provide you with the information needed to email, Tweet (or other social media posting), and/or mail the information to your legislator. The information provided will help them to understand why we need their help to support people with bleeding disorders and other rare conditions, and why it is so important that they have access to vital medical care. Please register by Friday, June 12, 2020. If you have any questions, contact the HNC Office at events@hemophilia-nc.org, or by phone at 919-319-0014. Webinars for Legislative Days
