HNC Family Retreat
Sunday-Tuesday, August 11-13, 2013
Pine Knoll Shores, NC Outer Banks
Back by popular demand! Hemophilia of North Carolina's 2013 Family Retreat will take place this summer on the beautiful Outer Banks. It will be held at the Trinity Center, between Salter Path and Pine Knoll Shores, from Sunday through Tuesday, August 11-13. Accommodations, meals and refreshments will all be provided at no cost to HNC member families through the generous support of our sponsors and donors. Programs will begin at 5:00pm on Sunday (check-in begins at 4:00pm) and conclude on Tuesday at 1:00pm after lunch.
We invite families with children who are affected by a bleeding disorder to join us for a fun-filled, educational retreat at the shore. Recommended ages of the children is between the ages of 4 and 12 this year. Programs will be planned for this age group, including a special trip from the local aquarium keeper.
Programs and speakers have been selected to address key issues in the community and we are grateful for the time and effort committed to developing this agenda. Although we know it is tempting to spend the retreat on the beach, we request that all participants who register attend all programs. We have tried our best to build in some free time to enjoy the facility along with providing important educational programming. If you do not feel that your party can make the commitment to attend the sessions, please do not register. Thank you for your cooperation.
Our accommodations will be in groups of guest rooms referred to as clusters. Each cluster contains 8-12 rooms and is supported by its own central living room with comfortable furniture, TV/VCR, microwave, ice maker, coffee maker, gas log fireplace and telephone. Each guest room is individually cooled, has a double and single bed, and a private bath. There are no TVs in the guest rooms. Cots are available for a fourth person if needed.
Because of the modest guest room size, we ask that family groups be limited to four (4) persons per family. However, if additional space is needed to accommodate larger families, please call HNC for more information on availability. All spaces are smoke-free and climate controlled. All common areas are handicap accessible, as are some guest rooms (please let us know if you need an accessible room).
Our family retreat will feature:
- A two-night stay at the oceanfront Trinity Center, with meals and refreshments included;
- A chance to show off your skills on Monday night during our talent show! Bring along any props you may need to impress the audience!
- Topics such as "Understanding the Challenges" and "The Art of Transition" to help you grow your bond with your child(ren);
- A family kick-off carnival on Sunday night, including food, games and prizes!
The Trinity Center is nestled in a pristine maritime forest on North Carolina's Outer Banks, and spans the island from Bogue Sound to the Atlantic Ocean. Recreational facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, which we may use at any time, as well as easy access to 1,500 feet of private oceanfront and sound-side beaches, and many walking trails. For more information on the facility please visit the Trinity Center web site at www.trinityctr.com.
